“As the cliché goes, ‘You will never meet your future spouse at a bar.’ Well, we didn’t listen. When we were first introduced by a mutual friend, I looked at Jason and said, ‘I have two questions for you. Do you like hockey?’ His answer was, ‘Yes’. He asked me the same question and I give him the same answer. Next question and the deal breaker… ‘Which team?’ He looked at me and said, ‘Please don’t say the Sens.’ My reply, ‘Oh God no, I really do not like the Sens!’ He responded, ‘Phew, me either, I’m Leafs.’ Leafs?! My heart sunk… ‘I’m Habs.’ Well now what? Our dislike for the Sens was our safe haven.”
This was only the beginning of their hockey story. One night, as Jason and Stacy sat at home for a tense Habs vs. Leafs game, Jason put aside their playful rivalry and proposed. Stacy, of course, said yes.
On a breezy February day in Ottawa, Canada, Stacy and Jason prepare for their wedding. Black Lamb Photography is there to help them capture this very special day.
Before donning their elegant baby blue dresses, the bridesmaids take turns having their hair and makeup done. Once she is also ready, they help Stacy into her gorgeous wedding dress before heading to St. George’s Parish Church for the ceremony. With her bouquet in hand and father by her side, she heads down the alley toward her smiling spouse-to-be.
Reflecting on her wedding day, Stacy tells us, “The biggest question surrounding our wedding was who was going to cry first, him or I. Well, the universal answer was HIM! For over a year with almost everyone we knew, we discussed when he was going to cry. ‘The church when he first sees you’; ‘When you’re exchanging vows’; ‘The night before when he realizes he’s doomed’. Those were some of the most common answers. It didn’t happen at any of those times. However it did happen.”
After their lovely ceremony, the couple heads out to capture some beautiful shots. Stacy puts on an elegant white coat and warm winter boots. Jason stays warm with a nice blue-striped scarf. It had snowed the day before, so the ground is covered by a fresh coat of powder snow, making for beautiful outdoor wedding photos. It is a true winter wonderland.
The bridal party and the happy couple then head to St. Elias Centre where the reception is held. The wedding guests get together for a nice meal, good music and joyful celebration. The wedding cake is paired with winter-white cupcakes. On top of the the beautiful cake, two lovebirds are perched, standing side-by-side on a nest. Excitement and joy fill the room.
“Here we are standing at the podium giving our speech in front of everyone and voila! Jason is in the middle of thanking his groomsmen and gets chocked up. He pauses, collects himself and tries again.”
Fitting to their relationship, the playful couple adds a personal twist to their reception when they put on their favorite hockey jerseys and share laughs with their friends and families.
“Even at our wedding introduction we wore our team jerseys and walked into the hall to the original ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ theme song.”
Stacy and Jason had a beautiful and romantic night, from the ceremony at the church to the reception. Looking at the gorgeous photos, anyone can see that they truly got their winter wonderland wedding.
