Boudoir photography – what is it? Just writing about it makes us blush a little. It is an extremely intimate experience that, to be totally honest, is beyond intimidating at first thought. This trend however, is leading to breathtaking results and VERY happy spouses. Whether you’re planning on using your boudoir photos as a tease before the wedding, a present for your departing military spouse, or a Valentine’s day surprise, these tips will help you feel comfortable, confident and sexy during the process.

Find the Perfect Boudoir Photographer

Just like finding your wedding photographer, you want to make sure that you feel absolutely trusting and comfortable around them. After researching and figuring out exactly what styles of boudoir photography you prefer, reach out to your top three photographers in your area to ask them more questions. Here are some questions that you’ll want to ask:

    1. How much experience do they have as a boudoir photographer?
    2. What are the bridal boudoir prices and packages that they offer? How many sets and outfits does that include?
    3. Do they have a studio or do they come to your home? If they have a studio, what are the different set options that they have?
    4. How long will it take?
    5. How many pictures are included and when can you expect to receive them?
    6. Is retouching included? If not, how much extra will that cost?
    7. Do they have a list of past boudoir photography clients that you can reach out to for a reference?

Choose Boudoir Outfit Options

Not all boudoir pictures are taken when you are stark naked or even in lingerie. You can get really creative with what you want to wear (or take off) in front of the camera. The most important part is that you feel comfortable in yourself and in your options before you’re put to the test. That being said, try on your choices before hand – check yourself out in the mirror, do a little runway strut in front of your bridesmaids (great game for the bachelorette party!) or prance around your house by yourself. The ones that you feel the most at ease yet sexy in are the winners! Bring a variety of colors, fits and bridal boudoir accessories – most importantly your engagement ring! These are some of our favorite ideas for inspiration:

    • His favorite sports teams jersey with thigh high socks
    • See through robe with matching underwear
    • Comfortable teddy with a revealing back
    • One of his button up t-shirts and ties
    • Bridal lingerie complete with your veil

Get your girlfriends opinions if you’re stuck, but try and keep it all a secret from your other half- trust us, they’ll love the surprise!

Pamper Yourself For Boudoir Photography

Splurge and get your hair and makeup done professionally. You will come into the photoshoot feeling and looking supermodel ready. Plus, after your photoshoot you can go out to dinner with your fiancé and show off how gorgeous you look.

Being in less clothes than normal, and in front of a camera, most brides follow these boudoir tips before their photo shoot. From waxing, shaving, spray tans, etc. just remember that this is about being yourself and your fiancé will love them no matter what.

Take the Pressure Off

With all of that being said, let’s be honest, it’s still pretty scary baring it all in front of the camera. To take the pressure off, we recommend popping a bottle of bubbly and putting together a fun playlist of your favorite sexy songs to ease the nerves. You’ll be celebrating your new found freedom and will be a pro before you know it. Some ladies like bringing a friend along with them to help calm them during the process. If you believe that’ll help you, go for it! However, we suggest that you fly solo on this round. Since you’ve done your research on your photographer and feel comfortable around them, you have to trust them and their process. They will do everything in their power to make you feel like the goddess you are.
